Fluctuations: Dynamics of Domestic Wheat Transportation in Kazakhstan (February 2024)

In February 2024, domestic wheat transportation by rail in Kazakhstan showed interesting trends. The total volume of transportation was about 148,000 tons, which is 10.5% more than in February of the previous year.

The month started with a transportation volume of 36,000 tons. In the middle of the month, this figure increased to 45,000 tons, indicating a 24% increase. This growth may be associated with the rising internal demand for grains, especially ahead of the spring planting season. The end of the month was even more impressive, with the transportation volume reaching 66,000 tons, which is 46% more compared to the previous decade.

Comparison with 2023 data highlights changes not only in volumes but also in the stability of transportation. While last year’s transportation was more even and predictable, this year shows significant fluctuations, which may create additional challenges for managing logistics chains and supply planning.

Analysis of the data on domestic wheat transportation in Kazakhstan for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 marketing years shows a slight increase in total transportation volume: from 1,002,494 tons in the previous season to 1,017,570 tons in the current season, indicating a growth of approximately 1.7%.
