Market Changes: Trends in Kazakhstan's Wheat Exports in December 2023
By the end of 2023, wheat exports in Kazakhstan showed not just fluctuations but significant trends that are important for both the domestic agricultural sector and the country's position in the global grain market. Analysis of December 2023 data compared to the previous year revealed a substantial decrease in export volumes.
Compared to December 2022, the first decade of 2023 showed a 16% decrease, from 133 thousand tons to 110 thousand tons. The decline continued into the second decade, though less pronounced, with a 15% decrease compared to the same period of the previous year. This indicates a possible intensification of negative trends. The most significant reduction was noted in the third decade, where exports fell by 33%, to 453 thousand tons, compared to 681 thousand tons in 2022.
Overall, for the entire month of December 2023, wheat export volume amounted to 832 thousand tons, which is 26% less than in December of the previous year. Such a significant reduction may have far-reaching consequences not only for the Kazakh agricultural sector but also for the global grain market, considering Kazakhstan's importance as one of the major wheat exporters.
