Trend Analysis of Domestic Wheat Transportation in Kazakhstan: December 2023

 

 

In the final month of 2023, the domestic wheat transportation market by rail in Kazakhstan shows small but significant changes compared to the previous year. The total volume of wheat shipments for December 2023 was about 479 thousand tons, which is just over half a percent less than in 2022, when the figure reached 481 thousand tons. Despite this slight overall decline, a detailed analysis by decade reveals a much more dynamic picture.

The most notable increase was recorded at the beginning of the month. In the first ten-day period of December 2023, the volume of shipments increased by 51% compared to the same period in 2022. 

However, already in the second ten-day period, the opposite trend was observed: transportation decreased by 15% compared to last year. 

 

The end of the month brought changes again. In the third decade of December 2023, there was a 21% increase in transportation volumes compared to the same period in 2022. This increase may be related to preparations for New Year holidays or completion of annual contractual obligations in the agricultural sector.
