Most Grain Crops in Kazakhstan Remain in Good Condition
Major grain-producing regions continue to demonstrate positive crop development dynamics
According to Kazhydromet, the condition of grain crop fields across Kazakhstan during the first ten days of June was assessed predominantly as good and excellent. The data were published in the agency’s agrometeorological ten-day report.
In the southern and southeastern regions of the country, the average air temperature during the ten-day period exceeded the climatic norm by 2–5°C. In areas where winter grain crops are cultivated, precipitation was generally below normal. The exception was several districts of the Zhetysu Region, where rainfall exceeded long-term average levels. In most winter grain fields in southern and southeastern Kazakhstan, crop development stages ranged from flowering to milk ripeness. Full ripeness was recorded near the Shymkent weather station in Turkistan Region and in Shu District of Zhambyl Region.
In spring grain crop fields in the south and southeast, tillering and the appearance of the lower stem node were the dominant development stages. In some districts of Zhambyl and Turkistan regions, spring barley fields were observed at stages ranging from milk ripeness to wax ripeness. Plant conditions were assessed as good and excellent.
In western Kazakhstan, spring grain crops were mainly at the tillering stage and the stage of lower stem node emergence above the soil surface. Crop conditions were predominantly good and excellent.
In the northwestern part of the country, grain crop conditions were assessed as satisfactory and good. In the eastern regions, plants were in good condition, while excellent and good assessments prevailed in central Kazakhstan.
In northern Kazakhstan, the condition of spring grain crops also remains mostly good. In some areas, sowing of spring wheat is still ongoing.
Corn and soybean crops in the south and southeast were mainly in the leaf development stage. Plant conditions were assessed as good and excellent.
In eastern Kazakhstan, sunflower crops were observed in stages ranging from the appearance of the second pair of leaves to the formation of inflorescences. In the northern regions, stages ranged from inflorescence formation to the second pair of leaves, while sunflower sowing operations continue. Crop conditions were assessed as good and excellent.
According to soil moisture reserve assessments, moisture conditions during the first ten days of June were mostly satisfactory and optimal across the country. Insufficient soil moisture was recorded in central and eastern regions, as well as in certain areas of the north, southeast, south, and west of Kazakhstan.
