Kazakhstan Plans to Increase Agricultural Exports to Austria

Kazakhstan is considering opportunities to increase exports of agricultural products to the Austrian market. The list of promising products includes grain, flour, meat, poultry, fish, honey, flax seeds and organic products.

Overall, the potential for increasing supplies of Kazakhstan's processed products to Austria is estimated at $637.5 million across 100 product categories. These include products from various industries, ranging from metallurgy and petrochemicals to food products and mechanical engineering.

The prospects for expanding trade and economic cooperation were discussed by Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Trade and Integration, Aidar Abildabekov, during a meeting in Astana with an Austrian delegation headed by Markus Hofer, Chairman of the Kazakhstan–Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group.

During the talks, the Austrian side expressed interest in purchasing vegetable oil produced in Kazakhstan. In addition, the production and processing of grain products were identified as areas of interest.

The parties also discussed opportunities to transform the existing trade potential into specific supplies, investments and joint projects.

At present, the volume of bilateral trade does not yet fully reflect the existing opportunities between the two countries. From January to July 2026, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Austria amounted to $159.9 million.

At the same time, exports of Kazakh products increased 2.4-fold and reached $7.64 million. Kazakhstan considers products with high added value to be one of the promising areas for further increasing supplies.

As Aidar Abildabekov noted, the objective is not only to increase the volume of bilateral trade but also to expand the presence of Kazakh products in the European market. According to him, specific product categories and companies that can already operate in this direction have been identified.

The development of transport and logistics cooperation between the two countries was a separate topic of the talks. Kazakhstan and Austria are interested in increasing freight transportation by rail and across the Caspian Sea.

The parties intend to continue joint work on expanding the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, developing logistics infrastructure and improving the efficiency of freight transportation.
