KTZ and Uzbekistan Coordinate Measures to Accelerate Grain Unloading
From January to September 2026, Kazakhstan shipped 4.1 million tonnes of grain to Uzbekistan, an increase of 44% compared with the previous year
Kazakhstan continues to increase the volume of grain transported by rail to Central Asian countries. During the first ten days of October 2026, 225,000 tonnes of grain were shipped in this direction, representing a 5% increase compared with the same period last year. Uzbekistan accounted for the largest share of shipments, receiving 171,000 tonnes.
Amid difficulties with the transportation and unloading of grain cargo, KTZ representatives held working meetings in Uzbekistan on October 12–13. Representatives of Uzbekistan Temir Yullari JSC, Uzbekistan's Ministry of Transport, customs authorities, and cargo recipients participated in the discussions. The parties considered measures to ensure the timely acceptance of grain shipments and accelerate unloading operations.
According to KTZ's statement on October 14, the national railway company arranged for up to 40 trains per day to pass through Saryagash station in order to increase the railway infrastructure's capacity. The sorting system at Arys station was also modernized, and the formation of direct trains was organized along 14 routes to Central Asian countries.
In addition, 500 covered freight wagons were leased to the Uzbek side. This measure is intended to accelerate cargo removal and free up loading and unloading facilities at the Tashkent railway hub.
According to KTZ, the volume of grain transported by rail from Kazakhstan to Central Asian countries reached 5.5 million tonnes between January and September 2026. This represents an increase of 33% compared with the corresponding period of 2025.
Meanwhile, grain shipments to Uzbekistan reached 4.1 million tonnes, showing year-on-year growth of 44%.
In September, a record 1.5 million tonnes of grain were transported across the KTZ railway network. Of this volume, 701,000 tonnes were shipped to Central Asian countries.
