Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture introduces a six-month ban on wheat imports
The temporary restrictions apply to road, rail and water shipments, while wheat transit through the country will remain uninterrupted
Kazakhstan's Ministry of Agriculture has approved an order introducing a temporary ban on wheat imports by road, rail and water transport. The document will come into force on July 27.
The restriction will remain in effect for six months and will apply to wheat imports from both the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and third countries.
The order also provides several exemptions. Wheat imports by rail will be permitted for poultry farms, grain processing enterprises, licensed grain elevators, and the Food Contract Corporation JSC.
At the same time, wheat imported for poultry and grain processing enterprises may not be sold either on the domestic market or abroad.
Transit shipments of wheat through the territory of Kazakhstan will continue and will not be affected by the new restrictions.
