Prodcorporation Ships Another Batch of Wheat to Afghanistan

Kazakhstan's national grain operator continues to export wheat to Afghanistan. Another batch of grain was shipped from elevators located in the country's grain-producing regions.

Prodcorporation had previously shipped 44 thousand tonnes of food wheat by rail to its Central Asian trading partner. In total, the company exported 124 thousand tonnes of grain during the first eight months of 2026. In addition to Afghanistan, Kazakh wheat was supplied to buyers in China, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan.

Prodcorporation notes that Afghanistan has traditionally been one of the markets for Kazakh wheat. The country consumes around 9 million tonnes of wheat annually, while its domestic production stands at 4–5 million tonnes. The shortfall is covered by imports of grain products, creating opportunities to increase grain supplies from Kazakhstan.

The majority of Prodcorporation's export shipments consist of Grade 3 wheat grown by farmers in the North Kazakhstan, Kostanay and Akmola regions. Kazakh grain is distinguished by its high gluten content and good baking properties, which makes it popular among importers. In Central Asian countries, it is often used to improve the quality of flour.

At the same time, this year the national grain operator's activities are focused to a greater extent on the domestic market. One of its priorities remains supplying grain to domestic processing companies, as well as livestock and poultry enterprises.

Grain supplies based on requests from regional administrations and through the commodity exchange trading mechanism amounted to around 400 thousand tonnes.

In addition, Prodcorporation has completed the redistribution of grain from Kazakhstan's northern regions to the Turkestan Region. Before the start of the mass harvesting campaign, 30 thousand tonnes of wheat were transported by rail to elevators in the southern region.
