Winter Wheat Harvest Nears Completion in West Kazakhstan Region
Early harvest results show yields above the long-term average thanks to favorable weather conditions
The winter wheat harvest is nearing completion in Kazakhstan's West Kazakhstan Region. The first results of the campaign have exceeded long-term average indicators. In some farms, yields have reached 85 centners per hectare, while certain fields have produced up to 110 centners per hectare, according to 24KZ.
Farmers say the high yields were made possible by favorable weather conditions. The growing season was characterized by sufficient soil moisture, while rainfall occurred during the most critical stages of crop development. Air temperatures were also approximately three degrees Celsius below the regional average.
By the end of July, more than 52,000 hectares of winter wheat and rye had been harvested in the region. Total grain production reached nearly 170,000 tonnes, with an average yield of 32 centners per hectare.
Berik Sitkaziev, Deputy Head of the West Kazakhstan Region Department of Agriculture, said the total sown area in the region amounts to 676,000 hectares, which is 50,000 hectares more than last year.
The region is also continuing to diversify its cropping structure. The acreage under oilseed and pulse crops is expanding due to their higher profitability. According to him, higher revenues from crop sales enable farmers to invest more in the further development of agriculture.
