Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial sector strengthens export potential: crop production revenues up 41%
Crop and livestock exports strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in global agricultural markets
Kazakhstan’s agro-industrial complex is demonstrating steady positive dynamics in foreign trade. According to data presented at a recent meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission of the Security Council, domestic producers have significantly increased foreign currency earnings in both crop production and livestock sectors.
Crop production made the largest contribution to export performance. In monetary terms, exports in this segment grew by 41.2%, reaching $2.3 billion. The export basket was dominated by products traditional for the republic: wheat and barley;
flaxseed;
sunflower oil;
animal feed.
The livestock sector also posted double-digit growth. Export revenues in this segment increased by 25.7% to $222.6 million.
Demand for Kazakhstani agricultural products remains high and stable. An analysis of export structure shows that more than 80% of total agri-food exports are concentrated in ten importing countries. Kazakhstan’s key trading partners include Central Asian states, China, Russia, as well as countries of Europe and the Middle East.
The Ministry of Trade and Integration emphasizes the importance of diversification. According to First Vice Minister Aizhan Bizhanova, the current strategy of the ministry is aimed not only at maintaining positions in traditional markets, but also at actively developing new promising destinations.
To unlock export potential, the government is working on the development of transport and logistics infrastructure and the establishment of a legal framework. A significant step was the signing of free trade zone agreements within the EAEU framework with countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, and Mongolia. This provides Kazakhstani businesses with preferential access to rapidly growing markets in Asia and the Middle East.
Financial and institutional support for exporters is provided through the instruments of QazTrade JSC and the Export Credit Agency. Since the beginning of the current year, support for agro-industrial enterprises has totaled approximately 119 billion tenge.
This package includes export acceleration programs and the organization of trade and economic missions, enabling producers to identify direct buyers and conclude firm contracts.
