Field for growth: doubling the area under oilseeds in Akmola region

In Akmola region of Kazakhstan, which occupies one of the leading places in grain production in the country, the sowing campaign has started. According to the information provided by the press service of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, at the moment 510 thousand hectares of the planned 5.4 million hectares have already been sown. This year, special attention is paid to grain crops: it is planned to sow 4.6 million hectares, which is 6% less than was sown last year (4.9 million hectares).

In addition to grain crops, the area allocated for oilseeds will increase significantly: this year it will double and amount to 400 thousand hectares compared to 198 thousand hectares last year. Also 345 thousand hectares will be allocated for fodder crops.

Within the framework of the current agrarian policy the agrarians of the region plan to apply about 258 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers to the soil, which is 57% more than last year. This increase in the volume of fertilizers is in line with the strategy of Kazakhstan, aimed at reducing the area under grain crops in favor of oilseeds.
