📈 Kazakhstan's Transit Shipments Outpace Import and Export Growth
Transit shipments through Kazakhstan in 2023 demonstrated significantly higher growth rates compared to import and export shipments
Transit shipments through Kazakhstan in 2023 demonstrated significantly higher growth rates compared to import and export shipments. This was reported by Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, during a government hour in the Mazhilis.
The minister highlighted that transit shipments increased by 40%, while import and export shipments grew by only 20%. Karabayev emphasized the importance of cooperation with China, noting high bilateral trade indicators.
According to the data provided by the minister, in 2023, imports and exports between Kazakhstan and China grew 2.5 times, while transit volumes doubled, reaching 1.8 and 2.2 million tons, respectively. In the first nine months of 2024, these figures continued to grow, with transit increasing by 67% and imports/exports by 59%, totaling 2.5 million and 1.9 million tons.
Karabayev also noted that neighboring countries are actively developing infrastructure to boost their transit potential. In response, Kazakhstan is working on three key routes:
1. A water route through the ports of Batumi, Varna, and Constanța.
2. A multimodal corridor to Turkey via Baku and Georgia.
3. A land route through Turkmenistan, Iran, and Turkey to Europe.
The development of these routes, according to the minister, will strengthen Kazakhstan's role in international logistics and further increase transit volumes in the future.
