In preparation for the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16), a strategy has been approved to represent the interests of Central Asian countries. The conference, which will take place in December this year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will serve as a major platform for discussing key issues related to sustainable land management.
Kazakhstan, through the Committee for Land Resources Management of the Ministry of Agriculture, acts as the coordinating body for preparing the region for COP16. Recently, a delegation from the country participated in a preparatory event held in Riyadh, where key issues concerning desertification in the Asia-Pacific region were discussed.
The main outcome of the meeting was the agreement on common positions and the development of joint solutions for successful participation at COP16. Kazakhstan, as a regional leader in land management issues, will represent the interests of all Central Asian countries, presenting key initiatives and proposals developed during previous meetings.
