Trans-Caspian Route: Freight Volume Increases by 70% in 2024
Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, announced a significant growth in freight volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM), which increased by 70% over the first nine months of 2024, reaching 3.4 million tons. One of the key drivers behind this growth has been the rise in container transport: in the first eight months, the volume reached 34,600 TEUs, three times more than the same period last year, when only 12,600 TEUs were transported. Notably, container transit from China has surged more than 20 times.
During a meeting with Christian Röder, CEO of APM Terminals Poti, discussions focused on further increasing freight volumes and developing transport infrastructure along the TMTM. APM Terminals Poti, managing a major port in Poti, Georgia, confirmed its readiness to support continued growth in freight volumes, including container shipments.
The Poti port, located on the Black Sea coast, plays a key role in the region's logistics chain, ensuring the transportation of goods between Asia and Europe through the Trans-Caspian route.
