Spring Sowing Gains Momentum: Over 2 Million Hectares Planted in Kazakhstan

Seed supply fully covered — 99% certified quality

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, spring fieldwork is progressing across Kazakhstan in accordance with agronomic schedules. As of early May, nearly 2.1 million hectares of farmland have already been sown across the country.

Southern regions are leading the campaign. In Turkistan Region, 449.2 thousand hectares have been planted, followed by Zhambyl Region with 306 thousand hectares, Zhetysu Region with 292.6 thousand hectares, and Almaty Region with 187.9 thousand hectares. These areas traditionally demonstrate high sowing rates thanks to early starts and favorable climatic conditions.

Other regions are also gaining momentum. In East Kazakhstan Region, 156.3 thousand hectares have been planted, Abai Region — 138.8 thousand, Kostanay Region — 85 thousand, Akmola Region — 74.8 thousand, Kyzylorda Region — 52.5 thousand, and Pavlodar Region — 56.9 thousand hectares. The campaign continues in other parts of the country as well.

Preparations for the sowing season were conducted in advance. Moisture conservation was completed on 16.7 million hectares, pre-sowing tillage covered 6.1 million hectares, and spring plowing reached 1.7 million hectares.

As of now, 942.1 thousand hectares have been planted with grain crops, 492 thousand hectares with oilseeds, and 242.8 thousand hectares with forage crops. Technical and vegetable crop planting is also underway: cotton covers 118.8 thousand hectares, vegetables — 71.8 thousand, melons — 57.7 thousand, potatoes — 32.5 thousand, sugar beet — 15.6 thousand, and rice — 26.3 thousand hectares.

To ensure the smooth execution of the campaign, contracts have been signed for the supply of 866.8 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers. Additionally, 401 thousand tons of diesel fuel have been allocated at a fixed price of 254 tenge per liter, which is about 15% below market value thanks to government support measures.

The seed requirement for 2025 is 2.3 million tons, which has been fully met. Laboratory tests have confirmed that 99% of the seeds are of certified quality.

The Ministry of Agriculture continues to monitor the progress of the sowing campaign and provides methodological and organizational support to the regions. If the current pace is maintained, the campaign is expected to be completed within optimal timeframes, laying a solid foundation for the country's food security and export potential.

🔑 Key Takeaways:
✅ 2.1 million hectares already sown — southern regions lead the pace
✅ Seed supply fully covered — 99% certified quality
✅ 401 thousand tons of discounted diesel allocated to support farmers
