The Ministry of Agriculture discussed equipment readiness, pest monitoring and the organization of protective measures

In 2026, the projected area of chemical treatment against gregarious locusts in Kazakhstan will amount to 2.2 million hectares. This figure is 0.5 million hectares less than last year. The information was announced at a meeting on phytosanitary security held at the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Vice Minister of Agriculture Yermek Kenzhekhanuly, phytosanitary security remains one of the strategic priorities of the country’s agricultural policy. Effective control over pest spread directly affects the sustainability of agricultural production and the country’s food security.

During the meeting, issues related to preparations for protective measures against locust pests were discussed. In particular, participants reviewed the planned volumes of chemical treatments, the readiness of specialized equipment, the timing of work to detect and excavate egg pods, as well as the organization of systematic monitoring of pest spread.

To carry out the work, it is planned to deploy 532 units of spraying equipment and involve about 3.5 thousand survey specialists. In addition, operational headquarters, a call center and a Telegram bot will function at the national and regional levels to ensure оперативное coordination and response during protective activities.
