China increases rail freight shipments to Baku via Kazakhstan

Growth in cargo flow is accompanied by faster delivery times along the route

In the first quarter of 2026, rail freight volumes along the Xi’an – Baku route via Kazakhstan increased significantly. A total of 85 freight trains were dispatched from Xi’an, the administrative center of China’s Shaanxi province, to the capital of Azerbaijan via the Trans-Caspian corridor, according to logistan.info citing Xinhua.

Compared to the same period last year, the figure rose by 51 trains, representing a 2.5-fold increase.

At the same time, delivery times along the route have decreased. While in 2025 the average transit time from Xi’an to Baku was 20 days, in 2026 it was reduced to 15 days, marking a 25% decline.
