Phacelia (lat. Phacelia) is a herbaceous plant of the borage family, which in 2026 remains one of the most popular crops in agriculture and horticulture due to its versatility.
Main features
Appearance: A fast-growing plant with a height of 15 to 100 cm (on average 50-70 cm). It has juicy, often pubescent stems and delicate green, pinnately dissected leaves.
Flowering: The flowers are bell-shaped, usually pale purple, bright blue or light blue, collected in characteristic inflorescences-whorls. Flowering begins 30-45 days after sowing and lasts about a month.
Resistance: A frost-resistant plant that can withstand frosts down to -7...-9°C. Unpretentious to soils, it can grow in stony and sandy areas.
Application
Green manure: One of the best crops for soil restoration. Phacelia quickly increases biomass (up to 300 kg per 100 hectares in 45 days), suppresses weeds, deacidifies the soil and destroys the pathogens of late blight and root rot.
Melliferous: It is considered an outstanding melliferous plant. Bees visit it even in cool weather and after sunset. Phacelia honey has a light greenish or white hue and does not crystallize for a long time.
Ornamental plant: Due to its beautiful flowering and openwork foliage, it is used in flower beds, borders and Moorish lawns.
Features of cultivation 15
Sowing dates: Can be sown from early spring to late autumn (pre-winter).
Seeding rate: About 150-200 g of seeds per 100 square meters.
Care: Practically does not require watering and fertilizing, since the deep root system extracts nutrients itself. When used as green manure, it is recommended to mow the plant at the beginning of mass flowering

Timothy meadow (lat. Phleum pratense) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the grass family, one of the most valuable fodder crops in temperate climates.
Main features
Appearance: Loose upland grass 40 to 120 cm high, has straight hollow stems and flat stiff leaves 4–9 mm wide.
Inflorescence: Cylindrical "false ear" (sultana), 5–12 cm long (sometimes up to 25 cm), rough to the touch.
Life cycle: The lifespan is between 5 and 15 years.
Ecology: The plant is winter-hardy and cold-resistant, but demanding to moisture. It prefers fertile loamy and clay soils.
Flowering and allergies
Period: Blooms in June-July (sometimes until August).
Features: Refers to "early morning" cereals: mass flowering begins at 5-6 o'clock in the morning.
Economic significance
Fodder crop: It has a high nutritional value (40.5 fodder units per 100 kg of hay). Rich in carotene, vitamins B1, B2 and C.
Landscaping: Used in lawn mixtures, especially for roadside reinforcement and land restoration.
