40 fish farming and processing projects to be implemented in Kazakhstan by 2030

New aquaculture projects will help increase fish production in Kazakhstan

Aquaculture and fish processing industries continue to develop across the regions of Kazakhstan.

Between 2021 and 2024, a total of 87 projects aimed at fish farming and fish processing were implemented in the country. The total volume of investments amounted to 21.4 billion tenge. The combined annual production capacity of the commissioned facilities exceeds 20 thousand tons of products. The implementation of these projects has reduced dependence on imported fish products by approximately 15%.

In 2025, eight additional investment projects with a total capacity of more than 1.2 thousand tons of fish per year were put into operation.

One of the major projects was the launch of a cage fish farming facility in the Mangystau region. The company Organic Fish implemented the first project of this scale in Central Asia in the waters of the Caspian Sea using Norwegian technologies. The project cost is estimated at 12 billion tenge, and its production capacity is 5 thousand tons of salmon per year.

In November–December 2025, the sea cages were stocked with salmon family fish juveniles weighing about 200 grams. Currently, the project has entered an active practical implementation phase.

At present, 40 aquaculture projects worth a total of 54 billion tenge are being implemented in Kazakhstan with completion planned by 2030. Their implementation is expected to increase fish farming volumes to 14.4 thousand tons, fish processing capacity to 10 thousand tons, and fish feed production to up to 6.8 thousand tons per year.

For further development of the sector and to maintain stable growth in fish farming, specialized fish feed is required. In this regard, the construction of modern fish feed production plants in the Almaty, Akmola and Mangystau regions is being considered.

The projects are planned to be implemented using government support mechanisms, including investment subsidies and preferential lending for aquaculture enterprises.
