Export of Vegetable Oil Products from Kazakhstan Exceeds 1 Million Tons
Kazakhstan expands global reach in vegetable oil exports
Over the first nine months of the current agricultural season, Kazakhstan exported more than 1 million tons of vegetable oil industry products. According to the National Association of Oilseed Processors (NAOP), the total volume of exports of vegetable oils, meal, and cake reached 1.002 million tons, with foreign exchange earnings exceeding $612 million, which is 46% higher than the same period of the previous marketing year.
The main driver of this growth was the export of vegetable oils, which increased in monetary terms by 57%. NAOP attributes this to the expansion of sales channels and an effective pricing policy that enabled successful adaptation to global market conditions.
Export Destinations and Growth Dynamics
Significant growth was observed in the European Union. Exports to Denmark grew more than twelvefold, to Germany by 165%, and to Latvia by 14%. In addition, regular deliveries to Estonia began in the 2024/25 season, while there were no exports to that country in the same period last year.
Central Asian markets also showed positive dynamics. Kyrgyzstan increased imports of Kazakh oils and meal by 69%, Uzbekistan by 35%, and Tajikistan by 22%. Notably, Turkmenistan imported 16 thousand tons, compared to previously less than 1 thousand tons annually.
Substantial growth was also recorded in China (+41%) and Afghanistan (+30%).
Strategic Goals and Domestic Market
According to NAOP, Kazakhstan aims to become one of the top three global exporters of sunflower oil, with a target of reaching $2 billion in annual export revenues.
The Association emphasizes that diversification of export destinations not only boosts foreign trade volumes but also helps mitigate price risks, contributing to price stability in the domestic market and supporting the sustainable development of the processing industry.
