Phytosanitary Requirements for Agricultural Products to Change in the EAEU
The changes will affect requirements for vegetable products, phytosanitary control and certification of wooden packaging materials
The Eurasian Economic Union plans to amend quarantine phytosanitary requirements applicable to certain types of agricultural products. The relevant decision was adopted at a meeting of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, according to the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, amendments to a number of documents regulating the agricultural sector of the EAEU countries were approved. In particular, adjustments are planned to the method of field inspection of varietal crops.
Changes will also be made to the Unified Quarantine Phytosanitary Requirements applied to regulated products and facilities at the customs border and within the territories of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union.
One of the decisions concerns the application of phytosanitary measures against the pepino mosaic virus, which affects tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. It is proposed to remove the requirement for these products to be free from the virus, provided that the country ensures a sufficient level of quarantine phytosanitary safety.
In addition, the list of regulated products subject to phytosanitary control at the customs border and within the territories of the EAEU member states will be revised.
The changes will also apply to wooden packaging and securing materials. Mandatory phytosanitary certificates for such materials will no longer be required if they bear markings that comply with the unified requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Eurasian Economic Commission noted that the adopted measures are aimed at optimizing the application of quarantine phytosanitary requirements and creating more favorable conditions for the production and trade of the relevant products within the territories of the Union's member states.
At the meeting of the EEC Council, new cooperation projects within the EAEU involving Kazakhstani enterprises were also approved. Such projects are eligible for preferential financing through subsidies on interest rates for loans.
Earlier, in 2025, a cooperation project for the production of agricultural machinery in the Akmola Region was approved under this mechanism.
