📦 Global Grain Market: Trends, Prices, and Prospects for 2025

The March wheat futures on the US exchange closed on Friday, January 3, 2025, with a 3% decline. The closing price was $5.2925 per bushel, equivalent to $194 per ton.

The price drop can be attributed to favorable weather conditions in producing countries and reports from importers indicating sufficient grain reserves. For instance, Egypt announced that its wheat reserves are sufficient to meet demand until the end of June 2025. Meanwhile, China achieved a historic record by harvesting over 700 million tons of grain, specifically 706.5 million tons. This allowed Chinese state companies to procure 420 million tons of grain from the domestic market in 2024.

In northern Kazakhstan, 3rd-grade wheat with 23% gluten is offered at 65,000 KZT per ton (including VAT) from elevators. High-quality hi-pro wheat with more than 30% gluten is priced at 125,000 KZT per ton (including VAT). For comparison, in autumn, such grain cost around 110,000 KZT. The price increase is likely due to the 15% devaluation of the tenge in December.

As for feed grain, 5th-grade wheat is offered at 60,000 KZT per ton, while 2nd-grade barley is priced at 50,000 KZT per ton (including VAT) from elevators.

The export price of Kazakh flour for the Afghan market (DAP Saryagash) is $230 per ton. On the domestic market, first-grade flour costs 130 KZT per kilogram, while premium-grade flour is priced at 160 KZT per kilogram.
