Kazakhstan sends 390,000 tonnes of wheat to Algeria for the first time

Kazakhstan’s first large-scale wheat shipment to the Algerian market

From January to November 2025, Kazakhstan carried out its first large-scale wheat shipments to Algeria, totaling 390,000 tonnes worth more than 100 million US dollars. The information was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.

According to the ministry, this achievement became possible thanks to the subsidization of transportation costs in 2025, as well as active cooperation with Algerian state institutions. Throughout the year, the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Algeria held negotiations as part of the President’s mandate to promote domestic agricultural products on foreign markets.

One of the key steps was a meeting in January between Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Algeria, Anuarbek Akhmetov, and the Director-General of the Algerian Intersectoral Office for Cereals (OAIC), Nasreddine Messaoudi — the body responsible for coordinating centralized state purchases of wheat and pulses. The Kazakh side presented wheat samples and laboratory test results provided by the National Company “Prodcorporation.” According to the MFA, the OAIC head gave a positive assessment of the grain quality and expressed interest in potential purchases.

Later, in June, the ambassador met with Algeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Youcef Cherfa, who confirmed his support for expanding agricultural cooperation with Kazakhstan, including wheat imports.

Algeria remains one of the world’s largest wheat importers, purchasing up to 9 million tonnes of soft wheat annually. All procurement is centralized through OAIC, which regularly conducts international tenders.

The MFA also emphasized that Kazakhstan has the potential to supply not only wheat, but also meat, pulses, and other types of agricultural products to the Algerian market.

If Algeria’s interest continues, Kazakhstan may further strengthen its presence in this direction and expand its product range within future OAIC tenders.
