Kazakhstan and China Discuss Increasing Mutual Supplies of Agricultural Products

A Kazakh delegation is taking part in the 8th China Grain Trade Conference. The country's delegation is headed by Vice Minister of Agriculture Nazgul Khatepova.

During her working visit to China, the Vice Minister met with Liu Huanxin, Head of China's National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NAFRA).

During the talks, the parties reviewed the current state of trade and economic relations, opportunities for further growth in bilateral trade, and measures aimed at increasing supplies of agricultural products.

Nazgul Khatepova noted that China remains one of Kazakhstan's key strategic partners in the agro-industrial sector. The geographical proximity of the two countries, the complementary nature of their economies and the steady growth in demand for food provide a solid foundation for the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation. Kazakhstan is interested in systematic cooperation that will help ensure stable demand for domestic products and open additional channels for their supply to the Chinese market.

In 2025, trade in agro-industrial products between Kazakhstan and China increased by 36.8%, reaching $1.97 billion.

The participants noted significant potential for further growth in trade volumes, as well as for expanding and diversifying mutual supplies.

Kazakhstan presented a number of initiatives aimed at establishing long-term mechanisms for cooperation. In particular, it proposed expanding the range of goods in bilateral trade and increasing purchases of grain and oilseed crops, including for the formation of China's strategic reserves.

During the negotiations, particular attention was also paid to opportunities for attracting Chinese investment in agricultural storage and processing projects, as well as to the development of agricultural logistics.

Representatives of the Chinese side emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan in the agro-industrial sector and continuing joint work in the identified areas.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to continue working on the proposals and to intensify cooperation between the relevant government agencies and business representatives of Kazakhstan and China.

As part of the visit, Nazgul Khatepova also held a meeting with Hunan Province Governor Mao Weiming.

The meeting focused on developing practical cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hunan Province. Along with expanding the partnership in food security, Mao Weiming proposed strengthening joint scientific and technological cooperation and the exchange of experience.
