Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Discuss a Joint Livestock Farming Project
The initiative proposes allocating at least 50,000 hectares for cattle fattening with subsequent exports to Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan has proposed launching a pilot livestock farming project in Kazakhstan involving Uzbek investors. The initiative was presented by Davron Vakhabov, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, during the Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum.
The project proposes allocating an area of at least 50,000 hectares. Under the initiative, Uzbek entrepreneurs would be able to purchase livestock in Kazakhstan, organize cattle fattening operations, establish their own feed base, and then export animals weighing more than 400 kg to Uzbekistan.
The Kazakh side supported further discussion of the initiative. To implement the project, it is proposed to develop a separate framework for accounting, veterinary supervision, and export quota management.
According to the Livestock Union of Kazakhstan, 32 thousand tonnes of beef and 34 thousand tonnes of lamb were exported to Uzbekistan in 2025. The total value of these exports amounted to approximately US$300 million. At present, more than 90% of Kazakhstan's meat exports are supplied to the Uzbek market.
