Kazakhstan Prevents Import of 39.5 Tons of Contaminated Products from China
Dangerous quarantine pests were detected in shipments of peaches and carrots arriving from China through the Nur Zholy border checkpoint
Specialists of the State Inspection Committee in the Agro-Industrial Complex prevented the import of contaminated quarantine-controlled products from the People’s Republic of China at the Nur Zholy phytosanitary control post.
During a thorough inspection and laboratory examination, dangerous quarantine organisms were identified in two shipments of products with a total weight of 39.52 tons.
Specifically, an Oriental fruit moth, a quarantine pest, was detected in a shipment of peaches weighing 19 tons. In a shipment of carrots weighing 20 tons, inspectors identified the golden potato cyst nematode.
In accordance with national legislation and international regulations on plant quarantine, all contaminated products were returned to the country of origin — the People’s Republic of China. Administrative proceedings have been initiated against the owners of the cargo.
According to specialists, the introduction of such quarantine organisms into the country poses a direct threat to food security and could result in significant crop losses for domestic agricultural producers.
To prevent such risks, control measures at state border crossings and phytosanitary inspection posts continue under an enhanced regime. These efforts are aimed at ensuring Kazakhstan’s phytosanitary, environmental, and food security.
