Kazakhstan and Russia have reached an agreement to expand grain and agricultural exports to the European market. Additionally, some restrictions on meat exports have been lifted.
Kazakhstan plans to increase exports of durum wheat and other agricultural products to Europe via Russia, according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov following high-level negotiations.
"Grain exports to European markets will be facilitated through Russia. We plan to expand deliveries, particularly of durum wheat, as well as other agricultural goods to Italy and other European countries," Sultanov stated.
Furthermore, an agreement has been reached to partially lift restrictions on Kazakhstani meat exports. Russia previously imposed these due to epizootic concerns, but they have now been lifted for the southern and southeastern regions of Kazakhstan. Work is ongoing to remove restrictions across the entire country.
In the 2023/24 marketing year, Kazakhstan exported 176.7 thousand tons of durum wheat to Europe, representing a 14.4% market share. By the end of 2024, the average price for durum wheat in Italy was around 320 euros per ton (delivered to Bologna).
