🚂 Kazakhstan Reconnects Iran and China: Launch of the Transcontinental Railway Route
Operations have commenced on the first segment of the transportation corridor at the Aprin railway terminal, linking China, Iran, and Europe. The new route facilitates train journeys from Incheburun through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to the Yu station in China. The journey spans 10,297 kilometers and takes about two weeks, significantly faster than maritime shipping.
Miad Salehi, the head of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran, highlighted the high safety level of this corridor and its economic advantages over alternative routes. According to Mortezza Jafari, the deputy head of RAI, the initial phase includes weekly departures of one train from each side, with plans to increase to daily departures.
The Kazakh Ambassador to Iran, Askhat Orazbay, expressed hope for the future expansion of this route to Turkey and the European Union. It was also noted that regional countries, including Russia and Turkmenistan, are actively working on the synchronous development of the Eastern route of the international transport corridor "North-South" in the coming years, emphasizing the deepening of economic cooperation and increasing transit shipments.
