Kazhydromet Reports on Crop Conditions in Kazakhstan’s Grain-Producing Regions

In the third ten-day period of August, most grain crops in Kazakhstan’s main grain-producing regions reached the full maturity stage, prompting farmers to begin harvesting.

During this period, air temperatures were predominantly within the climatic norm. In the northern, central and eastern regions, precipitation was around or above normal, while the western and northwestern parts of the country received below-normal rainfall.

In the northern regions, spring wheat and spring barley were mainly at the full maturity stage. The wax maturity stage was observed in some areas. The condition of spring grain crops was predominantly rated as good and excellent, and satisfactory in some areas.

In western and northwestern Kazakhstan, spring grain crops also predominantly reached the full maturity stage.

In the eastern regions, the condition of plants was assessed as good and excellent.

In the central part of the country, crop conditions were generally good. At the same time, crop conditions in some areas of the Karkaraly District, near the Burkitty agricultural monitoring station, were assessed as poor.

Sunflower crops in eastern and northern Kazakhstan remain at the “ripening — harvest maturity” stage. In most cases, plant conditions are rated as good and excellent, and satisfactory in some areas.

According to instrumental measurements of productive soil moisture reserves in the main northern grain-producing regions — Kostanay, Akmola, North Kazakhstan and Pavlodar regions — moisture availability in the one-meter soil layer was at satisfactory and optimal levels.

At the same time, drying of the upper arable soil layer was observed in almost all regions.
