KazNIIZiR and UNDP Join Forces to Restore Soil Fertility in Kazakhstan

A working meeting was held at the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Crop Production (KazNIIZiR) with representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The meeting took place as part of an international project aimed at restoring soil fertility in Kazakhstan. The initiative is scheduled to run until 2029 and focuses on key areas of sustainable agricultural development.

Discussions centered on the implementation of efficient and sustainable agrotechnologies, as well as the development of seed production for perennial grasses. Particular attention was given to crops such as alfalfa and sainfoin, recognized for their high feed value and ecological benefits.

KazNIIZiR confirmed its readiness to make a significant scientific contribution to the project. The institute has the capacity to provide high-quality seed material and offer scientific support for agrotechnical solutions. The parties also discussed the potential expansion of the project to regions of Kazakhstan affected by land degradation. KazNIIZiR expressed interest in long-term cooperation and affirmed its commitment to serving as a reliable scientific partner for the initiative.

The soil restoration project is being implemented within the framework of Kazakhstan's international commitments to climate adaptation and sustainable natural resource management. The involvement of the scientific community and international organizations plays a crucial role in ensuring the long-term productivity of agricultural lands.
