Chinese Company Builds $1 Billion Port and Logistics Hub in Mangystau
The project includes the construction of seven berths and 7.5 km of railway tracks
A project to build a new port and logistics hub is being implemented in the Karakiya District of the Mangystau Region. The investor is the Chinese company Guo You Resources Group.
The total investment in the project amounts to $1 billion. The new multifunctional port and logistics complex is being developed on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea.
A total of $300 million has been allocated for the implementation of the first stage. The funds are planned to be used for the construction of port infrastructure, a berth complex, container and warehouse terminals, as well as railway lines and roads.
At the first stage, the new port is expected to have an annual handling capacity of between 6 million and 15 million tonnes of cargo. At subsequent stages, this figure is planned to be increased to 25 million tonnes per year.
The project includes the construction of seven berths and a breakwater approximately 3 km long. In addition, plans include laying 7.5 km of railway tracks, creating infrastructure for RO-RO and railway ferries, as well as building a shipbuilding and ship repair complex.
The regional administration noted that the project is aimed at creating modern multifunctional port and logistics infrastructure on the Caspian Sea.
Governor of the Mangystau Region Nurdaulet Kilybay emphasized the region's strategic importance for the development of Kazakhstan's transport and logistics potential. According to him, the new port in the Karakiya District is expected to expand the region's transit capabilities and enable more efficient use of the potential of the Middle Corridor.
