New Package of Measures: Kazakhstan to Support Producers in Domestic and Foreign Markets
Kazakhstan strengthens support for domestic producers and promotes products in domestic and export markets
Within the next two weeks, the Ministry of Trade and Integration, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, will present a package of systemic measures aimed at protecting and promoting Kazakhstani products. The relevant instruction was issued by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, who identified the protection of the interests of domestic producers both within the country and in export markets as a key priority.
The government’s main focus is shifting toward combating unfair trade practices within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. The Head of Government emphasized that the growing number of business complaints regarding unequal competitive conditions requires prompt intervention. The government’s position is to establish a fair balance of interests that will prevent Kazakhstani goods from being pushed out of the market.
To address these objectives, relevant agencies (the Ministry of Trade and Integration and the Ministry of Agriculture) have been tasked with developing mechanisms that will help domestic products secure stronger positions on retail shelves and gain access to foreign markets. The focus is on creating systemic support algorithms that eliminate fragmented measures and establish a long-term foundation for the growth of the agro-industrial complex.
These steps represent the direct implementation of the instructions of the Head of State. Earlier, at a meeting of the National Kurultai, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew attention to the vulnerability of Kazakhstan’s food industry. The President noted that domestic agricultural processors face strong pressure from imports originating from EAEU member states, which are often supported by substantial government subsidies in the exporting countries.
By early February, the government is expected to present a concrete action plan that will mitigate the impact of low-priced imports and create conditions for the development of domestic production in an environment of intense competition.
