Russia enters the top 6 global feed producers
Russia is among the fastest-growing producers, supported by export expansion and modernization
In 2024, Russia rose from seventh to sixth place in the global ranking of feed producers, increasing its production volume to 38.5 million tons — 8.5% more than the previous year. These data are presented in the annual global report 2025 Alltech Agri-Food Outlook, based on surveys of over 1,400 companies across 129 countries.
Global Feed Market
The total volume of global feed production reached 1.396 billion tons in 2024, up 1.2% from 2023. This marks a recovery from the stagnation experienced in the previous year, despite challenges such as highly pathogenic avian influenza, climate anomalies, and economic uncertainty.
Russia's growth — one of the highest among the top producers — was made possible by investments in production modernization, the development of vertically integrated agro-holdings, and expansion of exports. Government support for the agri-food sector and strong domestic demand also played a crucial role.
Growing Segments
• Poultry remains the world’s largest feed consumer — 385 million tons in 2024.
• Swine feed showed a slight decline (–0.6%) due to ASF outbreaks.
• Dairy and beef feed continued steady growth — by 3.2% and 1.8%, respectively.
• Aquaculture declined by (–1.1%) due to diseases and climate factors.
• Pet food was one of the fastest-growing segments (+4.5%), reflecting global trends toward the "humanization" of pet nutrition.
Regional Leaders
• Asia-Pacific remains the largest producing region (533 million tons), despite a decline in China.
• North and Latin America show steady growth.
• Europe is recovering, especially in swine and aquaculture.
• Africa and the Middle East posted the highest growth rate — +5.4%.
For Russia, it is crucial not only to maintain momentum but also to strengthen its position in premium segments such as high-energy and functional feeds, organic products, and export logistics. In an increasingly competitive global market, the key advantages will be technology, flexibility, and resilience to external shocks.
