Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Remove Trade Restrictions on 19 Product Groups
The list includes selected grain crops, processed grain products, and several other categories of goods
Starting from 10 August, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan will begin removing tariff and non-tariff restrictions on a number of product categories. The agreement was reached during the Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan Business Forum held in Tashkent.
According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the decision covers 19 groups of goods. These include selected grain crops, processed grain products, finished grain-based products, sugar, confectionery products, cotton, and other goods.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry did not specify which restrictions had previously applied to each product group or whether both countries would remove all existing tariff and non-tariff measures simultaneously.
Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Davron Vakhabov stated that the business community had long advocated for the removal of trade barriers. According to him, lifting the restrictions from 10 August is expected to create additional opportunities for business development and stimulate bilateral trade between the two countries.
Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Yeraly Tugzhanov, noted that Kazakhstan also has the potential to increase exports to Uzbekistan in 261 additional product categories.
