Kazakhstan May Boost Grain Exports to Iran to 3 Million Tons Annually – Ministry of Agriculture
In January–February 2025, agro-industrial trade between Kazakhstan and Iran grew by 147.9%, reaching USD 72.4 million

Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aidarbek Saparov held a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Akbar Joukar. The parties focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and discussed the prospects for increasing mutual supplies of agricultural products.
During the meeting, the head of the Kazakh agricultural department noted the steady growth of trade turnover in the agro-industrial sector between the two countries. In the first two months of 2025 alone, the volume of mutual trade reached USD 72.4 million, which is more than double the figure for the same period in 2024.
The main exports from Kazakhstan remain barley, oilcakes, beef and lamb, vegetable oils, corn, vegetables, and legumes.
According to the minister, Kazakhstan is placing special emphasis on increasing the volume of grain exports to the Iranian market. Over the past ten years, more than 9 million tons of grain — including wheat and barley — have been shipped to Iran. The Kazakh side believes that annual wheat exports can be increased to 2 million tons, and barley to 1 million tons.
The Iranian side expressed interest in further strengthening agricultural cooperation, particularly in the area of grain imports and the expansion of trade flows. Tehran also considers the creation of joint agro-industrial ventures one of the priorities of cooperation.
The Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan confirmed his willingness to support all proposed initiatives and to facilitate their implementation. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to intensify cooperation within the framework of the Kazakhstan-Iran Working Group on Agricultural Issues.
