16.8 Million Tons: Grain Reserves in Kazakhstan as of February

Kazakhstan stores 1.86 million tons of barley, as well as reserves of corn, rice, oats, and buckwheat, forming a stable grain reserve

According to the Bureau of National Statistics, as of February 1 of this year, Kazakhstan's grain and legume reserves amounted to over 16.8 million tons, with the largest share being wheat—more than 13.8 million tons. Despite the significant volume of stored grains, experts emphasize that the rational distribution of these reserves is key to the stability of the agricultural market.

Structure of Reserves: What and Where is Stored?
Grain reserves are divided into several categories:
• Food grain – 13.3 million tons (the main volume),
• Seed stock – 1.39 million tons (important for the sowing campaign),
• Fodder (feed grain) – 2.06 million tons.
In particular, food wheat stored in warehouses amounts to more than 11.8 million tons, while the seed stock is 1.12 million tons, and the share of fodder is 884,000 tons.

Where are the Grain Reserves Concentrated?
Various entities in the agro-industrial complex store grain in their facilities:
• Agricultural producers – about 6.3 million tons,
• Elevators – 4.7 million tons,
• Farm households – 2.99 million tons,
• Wholesale traders – 283,000 tons,
• Producers of organic chemicals – 11,100 tons.
Additionally, milling enterprises hold more than 1.3 million tons, while various legal entities have 1.1 million tons in storage.

Volumes of Other Grains: Barley, Corn, and Rice
Apart from wheat, Kazakhstan had the following reserves at the beginning of February:
• Barley – 1.86 million tons (including 805,600 tons of food-grade and 890,000 tons of fodder),
• Corn – 126,000 tons,
• Rice – 238,000 tons,
• Rye – 23,000 tons,
• Oats – 235,700 tons,
• Buckwheat – 86,800 tons.
