Kazakhstan increases durum wheat exports and ranks second in the EU

Growth in exports has strengthened Kazakhstan’s position among the largest suppliers of durum wheat to the EU

Following the results of the first half of the 2025/26 marketing year (July–December), Kazakhstan significantly increased shipments of durum wheat to the European Union market and ranked second among the largest suppliers of this product.

According to data from the European Commission, about 270 thousand tons of Kazakh durum wheat were exported to EU countries during the first six months of the current season. This is 3.8 times higher than the figure for the same period of the previous marketing year, when exports amounted to 71.5 thousand tons. At that time, Kazakhstan ranked fourth among the largest suppliers of durum wheat to the EU.

Italy became the main buyer of Kazakh durum wheat, importing 236 thousand tons. Deliveries were also made to Portugal — about 13 thousand tons, Latvia — 10.2 thousand tons, Spain — 8.4 thousand tons and Belgium — 1.9 thousand tons.

Canada remains the leading supplier of durum wheat to the EU market following the first six months of the current season, with exports totaling 765.7 thousand tons.

According to experts, the European market for durum wheat remains one of the promising destinations for Kazakh producers.
