Forecast for Russian Wheat Exports in August Cut to 2 Million Tonnes
Grain Prices in Russia Have Fallen Sharply, Especially in the South
Wheat exports from Russia could amount to around 2 million tonnes by the end of August. It is still difficult to estimate potential shipment volumes for September. The forecast was announced by Dmitry Rylko, Director General of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (IKAR).
Previously, IKAR estimated Russian wheat exports in August at between 2.1 million and 2.6 million tonnes. Thus, the current forecast is below previous expectations.
According to Dmitry Rylko, grain prices in Russia have fallen sharply. The decline has been particularly noticeable in the southern regions of the country.
The analyst also pointed to low market liquidity. According to him, the government is attempting to support agricultural producers using the instruments currently available. In this context, IKAR views positively the discussion of a possible moratorium on export duties.
It was previously reported that Russia's Ministry of Agriculture is considering the possibility of reducing export duties on wheat, barley and corn to zero until the end of the current year. The Oil and Fat Union is also holding negotiations with the regulator on this issue.
The measures under discussion are related to the blockage of Russian grain exports through the main export channel — the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin.
