Food Price Growth Slows in Kazakhstan
Monthly Deflation for Food Products Stood at 0.1% in August
In August 2026, monthly inflation in Kazakhstan stood at 0.6%, remaining at the July level. At the same time, food prices declined for the first time since the beginning of the year, with monthly deflation amounting to 0.1%. The data was provided by the Bureau of National Statistics.
The main price declines in August were recorded for seasonal fruit and vegetable products.
A slowdown is also being observed in annual terms. While food inflation stood at 13.5% in December 2025, by the end of August 2026 the rate had fallen to 9.5%.
The government continues to implement measures aimed at reducing the factors that shape the final cost of food products. In particular, a preferential tariff for rail transportation of food products is in effect to reduce transportation costs. More than 50 companies have already taken advantage of this measure, transporting 38 thousand tonnes of products.
A 20% reduction in electricity tariffs is provided for producers of socially important food products. The support is provided on the condition that producers undertake reciprocal commitments to restrain selling prices.
In addition, approaches to the operation of stabilization funds are being revised. The key indicator will not be the volume of products purchased or funds utilized, but the actual impact of the measures taken on the final cost of goods. Stabilization mechanisms are planned to be applied on a targeted basis, taking into account the situation for each specific product and region.
At the same time, control over the movement of products and the efficient use of funds allocated through social and entrepreneurial corporations is being strengthened.
