More Than 200 Tons of Contaminated Grain Prevented from Entering Kazakhstan

Dangerous Quarantine Pests Detected in Wheat and Barley Shipments from Russia

During phytosanitary inspections, state plant quarantine inspectors of the territorial divisions of the Committee for State Inspection in the Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan prevented the import of large batches of contaminated regulated products into the country.

More than 200 tons of food grain, including wheat and barley imported from the Russian Federation in violation of plant quarantine and phytosanitary safety requirements, were detained in the Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, and Kostanay regions.

Inspections revealed dangerous quarantine pests and weeds, including burcucumber, Russian knapweed (creeping knapweed), and dodder.

As a result of the measures taken, more than 128 tons of the detained cargo were returned to the exporting country. Administrative proceedings were initiated against the owners of the regulated products.

The collected case materials have been forwarded to judicial authorities for consideration of liability in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Ministry continues its efforts to ensure phytosanitary security and prevent the import of products that may pose a threat to the country's agriculture and ecosystem.
