Shipments of Kazakh Grain to Uzbekistan Increased by 69%

More than 5 million tons of grain raw materials were shipped to the neighboring country during the first eight months of the season

Uzbekistan remains one of the largest importers of grain and oilseed products from Kazakhstan. Over the past three marketing seasons, imports of grain raw materials have shown steady growth, while purchases of processed products, including flour, have gradually declined.

During the first eight months of the 2025/26 marketing year, Kazakhstan exported approximately 5.95 million tons of major grain and oilseed crops, as well as processed products, to Uzbekistan. Grain accounted for around 85% of total shipments. For comparison, this share was about 78% in the previous season and slightly above 75% in the season before that.

The strongest growth was recorded in grain raw material shipments. Between September and April of the 2025/26 marketing year, exports reached 5.03 million tons, which was 69% higher than the 2.98 million tons shipped during the same period of the previous season.

At the same time, exports of processed grain products declined. During the reporting period, shipments fell by 15%, decreasing from 414 thousand tons to 350 thousand tons.

Wheat continues to dominate Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports to Uzbekistan. During the first eight months of the current season, wheat exports totaled approximately 4.8 million tons, up 73% from 2.77 million tons in the corresponding period of the previous marketing year.

In contrast, imports of Kazakh wheat flour by Uzbekistan continued to decline. Between September and April of the 2025/26 marketing year, imports amounted to approximately 259 thousand tons, which was 20% lower than the 322 thousand tons imported during the same period of the 2024/25 season.

The decline in flour purchases is becoming a stable trend. During the entire previous season, Uzbekistan imported 427 thousand tons of wheat flour from Kazakhstan, which was 6% lower than the 452 thousand tons purchased in the 2023/24 marketing year.

Positive growth was also recorded in barley exports. According to official statistics, Kazakhstan exported about 177 thousand tons of barley to Uzbekistan during the first eight months of the current season. This was 42% higher than the 125 thousand tons exported during the same period of the previous season.

Prospects for the development of grain, oilseed, and processed products markets will be among the key topics discussed at the 6th International Asia Grains & Oils Conference in Tashkent 2026. The forum will take place on September 16–17, 2026, in Tashkent.
