Kazhydromet Releases Forecast for the Development of Spring Grain Crops

Heading and wax ripeness stages are expected to occur close to long-term average dates across most grain-producing regions

According to preliminary estimates from Kazhydromet, the timing of key development stages of spring grain crops will vary across different regions of Kazakhstan during the current growing season. In the country’s main grain-producing areas, the onset of phenological stages will depend on sowing dates, moisture availability, and accumulated heat. Across most territories, these stages are expected to occur close to long-term average values, although in some districts they may occur earlier or later than usual.

In southeastern Kazakhstan, the heading and wax ripeness stages of spring grain crops are expected to occur within long-term average timeframes.

A similar situation is forecast for the western regions of the country, where the onset of heading and wax ripeness at observation sites is also expected to remain close to climatic norms.

In northern and central Kazakhstan, the key development stages of grain crops are expected to occur near long-term average dates in most districts. However, in Zerendi District (Zerendi village) and Sandyktau District (Balkashino village) of Akmola Region, heading and wax ripeness may occur later than usual due to delayed sowing. In contrast, development stages in Irtysh District (Golubovka village) of Pavlodar Region are expected to occur somewhat earlier than average.

In eastern Kazakhstan, the onset of heading and wax ripeness is also forecast to be close to normal long-term dates.

Kazhydromet noted that under prolonged drought conditions, the maturation of spring wheat and spring barley may occur earlier than the long-term average.
