Kazakhstan Reduces Grain Transit Tariffs to Kyrgyzstan

The new tariff rate will make agro-exports more affordable and strengthen economic integration within the EAEU

Starting from June 8, 2025, the tariff for railway transit transportation of grain cargo through the territory of Kazakhstan to the Kyrgyz Republic will be reduced by 45% — from the base level to 55% of the established rate. This was reported by the State Enterprise "Kyrgyz Temir Zholu" with reference to the official order of JSC "NC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" dated May 23, 2025, No. 9-C.

This decision was the result of interdepartmental negotiations held in April this year. During a meeting between the Director General of "Kyrgyz Temir Zholu" Amanbek Sakiyev and the Chairman of the Management Board of JSC "KTZ" Nurlan Sauranbayev, the parties discussed options for optimizing the tariff policy amid rising logistics costs and the need to ensure sustainable trade flows between the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

As a result of the dialogue, an agreement was reached to reduce the unified tariff level for the transit transportation of grain crops passing through the Republic of Kazakhstan to and from Kyrgyzstan. The new rate will be applied under the framework of the EAEU agreement on mutual trade and agricultural transportation.

The reduction of tariffs represents a significant relief for both Kazakhstani and Kyrgyz exporters of grain. Lower logistics costs will strengthen the competitiveness of their products in regional markets and allow agricultural producers to plan their shipments more flexibly. In addition, this measure contributes to deeper economic integration between the EAEU member states and demonstrates the willingness of infrastructure operators to meet the needs of businesses in a volatile economic environment.
