KTZ Prepares a Cargo Prioritization Algorithm for the Railway Network

Implementation of the new mechanism will require amendments to railway freight transportation rules

KTZ plans to introduce a cargo prioritization system on Kazakhstan’s railway network. The decision was made during a meeting dedicated to grain cargo transportation issues.

To implement the mechanism, amendments will need to be made to the existing railway freight transportation regulations. The new algorithm is expected to determine the order of priority passage for certain categories of goods.

As part of the preparation process, the Ministry of Agriculture has been tasked with compiling a list of socially significant and perishable food products. In turn, the Ministry of Industry must provide a list of enterprises with continuous production cycles, as well as raw material suppliers.

The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs “Atameken” has been instructed to hold consultations with business representatives and present a consolidated position on the introduction of cargo prioritization.

According to KTZ, the total freight transportation volume on the railway network reached 84.4 million tons in January–April of the current year.

Coal continues to account for the largest share of freight traffic. Over four months, coal transportation reached 35.3 million tons, which is 3.3% higher than during the same period last year.
