Sowing in Numbers: An Overview of Agricultural Activities in Kazakhstan
Grain crops remain the core of the sowing campaign, occupying over 10.9 million hectares

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reported on the progress of the spring field campaign: as of May 30, more than 15.1 million hectares of agricultural land have been sown across the country. The largest contribution to the total sowing area was made by farms in the Akmola (3,706 thousand ha), Kostanay (3,292 thousand ha), and North Kazakhstan (2,566 thousand ha) regions, where extensive areas of irrigated and non-irrigated lands are traditionally used.
Grain crops remain the core of the sowing campaign, occupying over 10.9 million hectares. Forage crops have been planted on almost 783 thousand hectares, and oilseeds on around 2.75 million hectares. Vegetable crops cover 116 thousand hectares, potatoes — 108 thousand hectares, melons — 84 thousand hectares, cotton — 142 thousand hectares, corn for grain — 154 thousand hectares, sugar beet — 18 thousand hectares, and rice — 87 thousand hectares.
One of the key success factors highlighted by the Ministry is the timely supply of resources. Contracts for the purchase of over 1.12 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers have already resulted in the shipment of nearly 977 thousand tonnes. Of the planned 369 thousand tonnes of diesel fuel, over 290 thousand tonnes have been delivered to the regions.
The Ministry continues to coordinate the work of service enterprises and regional administrations: farmers are provided with methodological support, centralized supply of seeds, fertilizers, and fuel and lubricants, and the situation on the ground is monitored to respond promptly to climatic challenges.
According to ministry representatives, at the current pace, the campaign is expected to be completed within optimal agrotechnical timelines, allowing Kazakhstan to maintain high crop yields and ensure national food security.
