Uzbekistan reduces tariff for transit of Kazakh grain to Afghanistan

The transit tariff for grain to Afghanistan was reduced by 40% — the route through Oasis–Galaba is now more cost-effective for agro-exporters

A working meeting between the leadership of JSC "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" and JSC "Uzbekistan Temir Yullari" was held in Almaty, resulting in significant agreements directly impacting the agro-logistics chain of the region.

One of the key outcomes was Uzbekistan’s decision to reduce the tariff for the transit of Kazakh grain to Afghanistan by 40 percent. The new conditions apply to the route passing through the Oasis junction to the Galaba station. This step is a notable move towards exporters seeking to optimize logistics costs and enhance the competitiveness of Kazakh agricultural products on international markets.

In addition, the two parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the development of the Trans-Afghan corridor. This project is considered strategically important for expanding export routes and improving the throughput capacity of southern transit directions.

According to the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the meeting also addressed prospects for deepening cooperation in transport and logistics. The parties reviewed the results of their joint work over the past year and outlined their priorities for 2025.

One of the reported achievements was the 50 percent increase in throughput capacity at the Saryagash junction. The national company emphasized that this step ensured full execution of all logistics requests from cargo shippers, which is especially important amid growing volumes of agricultural exports.

The reduction in transit tariffs and the development of the Afghan corridor open new logistical opportunities for Kazakh agricultural producers, providing more stable access to southern markets and favorable conditions for expanding the country's export potential.
