💦 Kazakhstan's Ministry of Water Resources Concludes First Year of Work

 

🔹 411 projects have been launched to develop water infrastructure, improving water supply for more than a million people.

🔹 Subsidies for water-saving technologies have doubled, allowing the country to save up to 2.2 billion cubic meters of water by 2030.

🔹 A new Water Code has been developed, focusing on efficient resource use and addressing issues related to transboundary waters.

 

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan is actively developing water infrastructure as part of the 2024-2030 Water Resources Management Concept. The plan includes the construction of 42 new reservoirs, the reconstruction of 30 existing ones, and the upgrade of 14,450 km of irrigation canals. These measures will reduce water losses by 25% and increase irrigated land by 400,000 hectares.

This year, 411 projects have been launched, including the restoration of 575,900 hectares of irrigated land and the construction of 203 canals. As a result, water supply for over a million people will be improved.

The Ministry has also developed a new Water Code that emphasizes water-saving technologies and efficient resource use. Negotiations are underway with neighboring countries, including China and Russia, regarding transboundary water resources.

Additionally, the Ministry has increased subsidies for water-saving systems from 50% to 80%, which will save up to 2.2 billion cubic meters of water annually by 2030. An information system for flood forecasting has been developed, and new initiatives have been launched to study environmental issues in the Caspian Sea.

Salaries of water industry workers have increased by 25%, and more than 450 specialists have completed professional development courses. The Ministry has also signed cooperation agreements with several countries and organizations to exchange expertise and train specialists.
