Grain Reserves in Kazakhstan Decline to 11.4 Million Tons
More than 84% of total grain reserves is wheat, of which 8 million tons is food-grade
As of May 1, 2025, the total reserves of grain and leguminous crops in Kazakhstan amounted to over 11.4 million tons, according to the Bureau of National Statistics. The majority of this volume is traditionally composed of wheat — more than 9.625 million tons.
In terms of classification, food-grade grain makes up the largest share — 8.984 million tons, followed by seed stock — 1.359 million tons, and fodder grain — more than 1 million tons.
Out of the total wheat volume, over 8 million tons are designated for food use, while 1.115 million tons are allocated to the seed fund. The remaining 488 thousand tons are classified as fodder.
In terms of storage locations, the largest share is held by agricultural producers, who store over 4.618 million tons. Elevators account for more than 3.274 million tons, and farmer households hold 1.94 million tons. Wholesale traders store around 238.8 thousand tons, organic chemical producers — 11.4 thousand tons, and feed manufacturers — 22 thousand tons. Flour mills have stockpiled over 1 million tons, while other legal entities hold 226.8 thousand tons.
As for other crops, barley reserves as of early May totaled more than 1.023 million tons, including 463.8 thousand tons for food use, 151.4 thousand tons as seed, and 407.8 thousand tons as fodder.
Kazakhstan also holds 76 thousand tons of corn, 162 thousand tons of rice, 14 thousand tons of rye, 185.5 thousand tons of oats, and 69.9 thousand tons of buckwheat.
