Akmola Region Expects the Richest Harvest in 10 Years

Akmola region is preparing to break a decade-long record in grain production, confidently reclaiming its title as Kazakhstan’s breadbasket. Farmers have already delivered more than 6 million tons of grain to storage, and forecasts suggest the final figure will exceed 7 million tons. The region has not seen such results since 2012, making this year’s harvest truly historic.

Harvesting is nearing completion, with more than 80% of the work already done. A total of 156 farms have fully finished their campaigns. Average yield across the region stands at 15.9 quintals per hectare, with most of the grain noted for its excellent quality.

Several factors contributed to this success: favorable weather throughout the season, timely government support, and financing under the “Ken Dala-2” program, which enabled about a thousand farms to modernize their technical base. This year, sown areas expanded to 5.5 million hectares, 300,000 more than last season. Around 20,000 pieces of machinery were deployed, and farmers were supplied with subsidized diesel fuel.

The region is also pursuing a strategic course of agricultural diversification. Over the past two years, oilseed areas have increased 2.5 times, reaching 500,000 hectares. The share of high-reproduction seeds is also growing, representing a long-term investment in future harvests.
According to official data, the gross grain harvest is expected to reach 7.2 million tons, while oilseed production will exceed 650,000 tons. Infrastructure is fully prepared to handle the record crop, with grain-receiving enterprises and storage facilities mobilized. In case of logistical difficulties, temporary grain storage systems using silo bags are ready for use.

This achievement not only strengthens the regional economy but also enhances Kazakhstan’s food security, reaffirming the high potential of its agro-industrial sector.
