Canadian Wheat Exports Fell 16.8% Over the Week
Cumulative Canadian wheat shipments since the start of the season remain 47.9% above last year’s level
Canada reduced wheat exports through licensed elevators in the week ending August 16. According to the Canadian Grain Commission, shipments totaled 432,100 tonnes, compared with 519,100 tonnes a week earlier. Thus, the weekly figure declined by 16.8%.
Despite the decline in shipments over the latest week, Canadian wheat exports since the start of the 2026/27 marketing year remain significantly above the level recorded in the previous season.
Cumulative shipments through licensed elevators since the beginning of the season reached 1,055,100 tonnes. This is 47.9% higher than in the same period of the 2025/26 marketing year, when 713,600 tonnes of wheat were exported.
Grain deliveries from producers also increased significantly. Since the beginning of the current season, 737,600 tonnes of wheat have been delivered to elevators, compared with 328,400 tonnes during the corresponding period a year earlier. Thus, the figure increased 2.2 times.
Positive dynamics since the start of the season have also been recorded in Canadian barley exports. Since August 1, 113,500 tonnes of barley have been shipped to international markets through licensed elevators.
Compared with the corresponding period of the previous season, when exports totaled 57,500 tonnes, shipments increased by 97.4%.
During the latest reporting week, Canada exported 42,000 tonnes of barley. A week earlier, shipments totaled 36,000 tonnes. Thus, weekly exports increased by 16.7%. Almost the entire weekly volume of barley was shipped through the Vancouver terminal.
Barley deliveries from producers to licensed elevators also remain above last year’s level. Since the start of the 2026/27 marketing year, volumes have reached 87,700 tonnes, compared with 62,600 tonnes during the same period of the previous season, an increase of 40.1%.
